Remembrance Day 2015

November is the time of the year when we wear a red poppy in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for us during wars.

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice, on 11th November 1918, to signal the end of World War One.

St Georges's Day April 23rd

JP, waving his St George Flag!

St George's Day is on the 23rd April. It is England's national day.

St George is the patron saint of England. His emblem, a red cross on a white background, is the flag of England, and part of the British flag. St George's Flag was adopted by Richard The Lion Heart and brought to England in the 12th century.

Like England, every country in the UK has it's own patron saint who in times of great peril is called upon to help save the country from it's enemies.

St George was a brave Roman soldier who protested against the Roman's torture of Christians and died for his beliefs. Saint George is popularly identified with England and English ideals of honour, bravery and gallantry. One of the best-known stories about St George is his fight with a dragon.

Interesting fact!

Shakespeare was born on 23rd April 1564 and also died on the same day in 1616.

One of the most important things you can teach your child is respect. Keep in mind that respect is not the same as obedience. Children might obey because they are afraid. If they respect you, they will obey because they know you want what's best for them. The best way to teach respect is to show respect. When a child experiences respect, they know what it feels like and begin to understand how important it is. Keep in mind the saying "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Respect is an attitude. Being respectful helps a child succeed in life. If children don't have respect for peers, authority, or themselves, it's almost impossible for them to succeed. A respectful child takes care of belongings and responsibilities, and a respectful child gets along with peers. Our school teaches children about respect, but parents have the most influence on how respectful children become. Until children show respect at home, it's unlikely they will show it anywhere else.
